T.M.A.-1 by Robert J. Sabbia Mr. Kubrick's "2001" has been a source of inspiration for me on many different levels. For the past fifteen years or so, I've created small Monolith sculptures in various forms and sold them at shows and through other parties. These were always produced in very small numbers to maintain a sense of originality in each piece and also just for love of the subject matter. Too many creative works are priced beyond the average fan. I am making my newest version, pictured here, available in a signed limited edition at an affordable price. The piece itself, with black polished Monolith and clear base, portrays a dynamic setting that looks as though the Monolith was blasted into the moon forming its own crater, effectively spraying dust and rocks in all directions. This arrangement is also indicative of the Monolith's supernatural symmetry juxtaposed with the Moon's natural asymmetry. The aspect that makes this version special is that it was designed with a plaque as though it were meant to be an award given to Heywood Floyd and the T.M.A.-1 team. Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood were each presented with one of these sculptures at a Sci-Fi and "2001" convention. I feel honored that my work resides in their homes but I also feel very fortunate since they both autographed and dated my own sculpture, which is now the pride of my collection. Thank you and take care.
